LEESBURG, Ga. -- A reported dispute between an ex-wife and ex-husband resulted in several shots ringing out in Lee County on Monday afternoon, officials say.
Lewis Harris, chief deputy for the Lee County Sheriff's Office, said that a call came through regarding the incident at 4:26 p.m. from 836-B Middle Road South in Leesburg . The incident stemmed from a domestic dispute between an ex-husband and an ex-wife.
A verbal altercation started over damage to the ex-husband's daughter's vehicle, and ultimately resulted in the man firing shots toward his ex-wife, the chief deputy said.
"He got mad, got a gun and started shooting toward the (ex) wife several times," Harris said.
When officers arrived, the woman came out while the man left and fled into the woods. With the help of the man's family members, he eventually turned himself in, Harris said.
The man was identified as Paul Knight, who was taken to the Lee County Jail. Charges against him were pending Monday evening, Harris said.
There were no injuries resulting from the incident, and the scene was clear by 6 p.m. on Monday, Harris said.
