GISA REGION TOURNAMENT ROUNDUP: Terrell Academy girls reach 10th straight region title game, will face Westwood for 1-AA crown tonight

DAMASCUS — It’s that time of year again.

You know the time, when the Terrell Academy girls basketball team gets ready for another deep state run and — if recent history is any indicator — play for a state championship.

The Lady Eagles, who won three straight state titles in GISA Class A before moving up classifications last year and finishing runner-up for the AA crown, advanced to their 10th straight region championship Thursday night with a 57-25 rout of Sherwood in the Region 1-AA semifinals at SGA.

Lauren Barfield led TAE with 22 points, while Marilauren Farr added 12 points and Brittany Tripp chipped in 10.

Sherwood’s high scorer was Markeria Lewis with eight points.

Terrell improved to 19-7 on the season and will play for the region title tonight at 7 p.m. against Westwood, which beat SGA in Thursday’s earlier semifinal.

WESTWOOD GIRLS 76, SGA 26: Westwood’s girls sure knew what was at stake, making short work of Southwest Georgia Academy to reach tonight’s region title game.

Rachel Harrell led the way with 20 points, while Alexandra Plummer added 17. The Lady Wildcats moved to 18-3 on the season and remained undefeated in region play. They’ll face Terrell Academy today at SGA for the region title.

TAE BOYS 60, SHERWOOD 55: The Eagles completed Thursday’s Sherwood sweep by beating the other Eagles thanks to a balanced attack on offense.

Terrell had four scorers in double-figures: Raleigh Carlson led the way with 14 points, while Alan Stewart and Conor Walsh were right behind him with 13 each and Gable Freeman added 12 as well.

In a losing effort, Sherwood’s Patrick Stanford led the team with 23 points, while T.J. Clay and Dalton Todd each added 10 points of their own.

Terrell moved to 12-11 on the season and they’ll face Valwood, which beat SGA late Thursday, while Sherwood will play SGA in the third-place game.

GISA CLASS A SEMIS — CRISP ACADEMY 53, HIGHLAND 25: Herald Super 6er Madi Mitchell had another solid night for the Lady Wildcats, putting up 20 points in the GISA Region 1-A semifinals. J.J. Yawn contributed 11 in the win.

Crisp Academy moved to 26-2 on the season and has now win 21 straight. They’ll face Fullington Academy today for the region championship at 7 p.m. at Georgia Christian in Dasher.
