ALBANY, Ga. — A Council on Aging Meals on Wheels staffer was robbed at gunpoint Thursday morning, officials say.

The report came in to E911 around 9 a.m. when the driver of the vehicle, Terry Taylor, reported that a man wearing a blue coat had pulled a gun on him near the Golden Homes public housing units on the 600 block of Tift Avenue.
"The suspect demanded money from the victim and afterwards fled the scene with a small amount of cash from the victim. No arrest has been made at this time. The incident remains under investigation," APD Spokesperson Phyllis Banks says.
Two people who matched the description and who were nearby were initially apprehended by police. They have not been charged, however.
Kay Hind, the executive director of SOWEGA Council on Aging, said Thursday that Taylor, who is a staff member with the Middle Flint Council on Aging in Americus, was delivering one of her organization's established meals on wheels routes when a man walked up to his truck with a gun.
"You can imagine that it would be a traumatic experience but after he was done talking with police, he continued on and finished his route before he ever called the office," Hind said. "That's the kind of dedication that our folks have and I'm proud of him and am glad that no one got hurt."
Hind said that she hopes that Thursday's robbery won't have a chilling effect on people's desire to volunteer for the program.
"I just don't want people to be scared," Hind said. "I've been doing this for 45 years and this first time anything like this has ever happened."
Hind said that the Taylor gave the man $3 before the suspect fled the scene.

You have got to be kidding. I didn't think Albany had anyone that low. I take it this was a marked vehicle, not some volunteers own car?

Gee what a perfect example of a lowlife. Robbing a meals on wheel carrier, but this is Albany, Ga. right? If they arrest the scumbag they should feed him molded bread and dirty water.

And all the guy had to do was go to the DHR building, get his own EBT card, and get all the crap he wanted. Even with this government giving stuff away, shows how STUPID certain people really are!

Just so SAD!!!! People need to get jobs instead of robbing others to get what they want. I hope they find the person/people and really make an example out of them.

Now that is really terrible!!!! These thugs don't care who they rob and picking on someone who is helping the community is just about as low as it can get.

Hey, don't be surprised at anything that happens in Albany. Some of the scum here would steal the penny from their dead grandma's eye before they'd work for their next meal. It's just the LOW LIFE CITY!

Life in the Good Life The purp was most like spawned directly out of a subsidized housing unit of some type. We provide a "hatchery" for homegrown poverty and the crime that comes from it. Watch and weep as the situation only gets worse until those who are tired of putting up with it finally turn out the lights and move on up and out--but not to the East Side with George and Weezy.

Anybody wondering why companies wouldn't want to locate here?
KaosinAlbany 3 months, 1 week ago
Exactly! The city commission has set up it's own crime haven here by providing everything to the poor. It's ALL their fault!

This person is an product of your voting base. It's people just like this loser that votes for your Obamas and your Postels & Murfrees. People like him is the problems that plague this country and is why this country is headed downhill and into destruction. As long as there is welfare and food stamps, the situation is only going to get worse.

So you say it was a black male wearing a blue coat on Tift avenue. Well that pretty well sums it up don't it. After rereading your description, I noticed you left that part out, so I thought maybe that my description may be a little more descriptive.

When they locate this GENIUS... SHOOT on sight!!!!! Who robs meals on wheels??? they arent SELLING food they are giving it away!!! so therre is no money!!!

He was after what the driver had, a whopping $3. The amount of money seems to make no difference to these guys, anything is more than what they had before the crime.
