Squawk of the day - Feb. 18, 2013

"You state that gas prices were above $4 a gallon under Bush. Yes, it was. But Bush brought it down to below $2 by threatening to open reserves and federal lands for drilling. Obama says he is powerless in affecting oil prices which is a lie. Obama doesn’t care if gas, insurance, food and utilities are high. That is his agenda to weaken us."

American democracy has become a failure; we have allowed our future into the hands of the poorest and most ignorant part of our society. Uninformed voters content to believe they are voting for what is best for them and they could care less about the rest of America.

"We have allowed".............slight correction: We (Democrats) have allowed (bought with taxpayer money).....the (votes of the) poorest and most ignorant part of our society.

W & Obwan use(d) the same disastrous energy position - pro big multinational petro corporations & anti-American. Not a hint of difference.

Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 1 year, 1 month ago

Yes, Obama's hidden agenda is to weaken us. You figured it out! I can't figure out why people make fun of southerners for being simple-minded and ignorant...

1

Sister_Ruby 1 year, 1 month ago

Not weaken.........destroy! Through insupportable and unsustainable debt. Watch and see.

Sherwood , you KNOW raising minimum wage reduces employment, you KNOW raising taxes reduces tax income, you KNOW failing to increase internal energy supplies decreases national security. Maybe you should retake Econ 101.

Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 1 year, 1 month ago

I am not an Obama supporter, however to think that our President is trying to cripple our nation is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

USTPC 1 year, 1 month ago

Hidden agenda? No, I think it is pretty much out there for anyone to see. They just have to open their eyes rather than continue to hide their head in the sand.

Southerners are simple minded and ignorant for believing that Obama's agenda is to destroy America from within? So by that statement then you believe that the 58 million voters that voted against Obama in the last election are simple minded and ignorant? Based on what I read and hear, the belief that Obama is out to destroy America is not isolated in the South. It is a belief held by millions from East to West and North to South.

If it is keeping him laughing, keep them comming. All people need a good belly chuckle. Unless they happen to have an empty belly.

I don't think that all southerners are simple-minded. I think that if you voted for the President based on the color of his skin, then you are simple-minded. I also think that the majority (not all) of the "the sky is falling" believers are only saying that because deep down they can't stand a black man in the Oval Office.

If you are black and voted for Obama simply because he is black, then you are a simple-minded fool. If you are not black and voted against him because he is black, then you too are a simple-minded fool. Don't be so quick to say, "we didn't vote against him because of his color, it was because of the issues." That, my friend, would leave your pants "on fire."

Based on that line of reasoning you are saying that anyone who voted against Obama is a racist because even if we say we voted against him because of the issues we are liars. Nice.

sherwood is probably in negotiations with him to stop soiling their name! His responses don't speak highly of their education

0

Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 1 year, 1 month ago

Good one, tywebb.

Fortunately for you there isn't much you can do to discredit public schooling in Albany.

0

Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 1 year, 1 month ago

Um, no. I said not to quickly say that you didnt vote based on color. Only you know if you have a problem with him because of his skin color.

Please read this carefully:

If you are black and voted for Obama simply because he is black, then you are a simple-minded fool. If you are not black and voted against him because he is black, then you too are a simple-minded fool.

Do you think that he is trying to run the country into the ground, USTPC?

0

USTPC 1 year, 1 month ago

Sherwood, I absolutely believe that Obama is trying his hardest to transform the US into a socialist country. He has openly shown disdain for the constitution and has on several occasions actually stated that the constitution gets in the way of his agenda.

Realistically there is no country in the world that could go to war with the US and win so what other way is there to take us down? Economically. Spending us into bankruptcy and inflation. There is a reason Obama is not concentrating on the economy and that is because he does not give a rats ass how many unemployed people there are. The more he has on welfare the easier it is for him when an economic collapse comes. When (not if) that collapse comes people will be screaming for the government to take care of them with. Thus the transition to Socialism. Want to know where the US will be if spending does not get reigned in and borrowing continues at the rate it currently is? Just look at Greece and you have your answer.

0

Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 1 year, 1 month ago

I think that line of thinking is a bit paranoid in nature. I think it is absurd to think the President is trying to spend us into bankruptcy. He might be doing just that, but I don't believe he is actively trying to do so.

I feel just as strongly that a majority of Americans voted on color and not the issues.

I do want to reiterate that I am not an Obama supporter, however I don't subscribe to the "Obama is a socialist" line of thinking.

Sherwood, for the most part, southerners are not all simple-minded and ignorant. We are too proud to get on the Free Gimmie Bus. For myself, I ride the Christian Bus.

1

Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 1 year, 1 month ago

Fcarroll, like I told USTPC, I don't think all southerners are simple-minded. I think that if someone believes that President Obama is intentionally running the country into the ground because he is a Muslim and he secretly hates America is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

0

Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 1 year, 1 month ago

Sorry, I just read what I typed. The last sentence should read... " I think that if someone believes that President Obama is intentionally running the country into the ground because he is a Muslim and he secretly hates America, then they are ignorant."

Even Carter had enough balls to freeze the prices during the Iranian Oil Embargo.

chinaberry25 1 year, 1 month ago

Why are we discussing Southerners? All of the southern states went for Mitt except Florida and God knows they are not southern. What you failed to mention, right after 9/11 gas got to around 70 cents per gallon under Bush. It is the liberal left wingers than only tell you part of the equation. And as far as the poor voting for Obama, the rich farmers did too. All the farm allotments are given out freely. If you ask one, they will say they voted for Mitt, but guess who they really voted for, They know we have a weak leadership and we can con those Democrats. Mitt would have put the breaks on a lot of freebies and those who receive them and the farmers would have been top of the list.

If republicans would turn their backs on the christian bible thumpers and do the right thing on social issues like drugs abortion gays etc they wouldve easily won the last 2 elections. Way to go jesus freaks.

sometimes it's better to have morals and stick to them than to throw it all away just for a victory.

I hope that you folks don't believe the rich oil barons care about south Georgia. You can throw all the blame any way you want and spin it any way you want, but the fact of the matter is that you ain't gonna change dodo. You can thump you bibles and talk down on poor folks, but you and or your vote ain't gonna change dodo. I say quit your crying and enjoy life as much as you can.

If you are retarded enough to believe that, you dont deserve your double-wide trailer........

0

VSU 1 year, 1 month ago

You're retarded enough to believe anything. If Obama told you the world was rectangular, you'd believe it, so therefore you don't deserve that cardboard box you sleep in under the bridge.

1

bubbasmithredneck 1 year, 1 month ago

Booooo....that was weak.....come again....

Weak response to an original weak comment. You are weak, weak in the head that is. I thought about you last week when that boy got his scalp bit off by that pit bull. If that had been your head that the dog bit, your head would have deflated since there is nothing in there but air.

I can hardly wait until all the flock realize what's about to happen to them as a courtesy of ObamaCare on January 1, 2014. The "bridge" program that's supposed to accept those with pre-existing conditions before next January is already out of money. Huh. I'll bet the POTUS didn't figure upon that. I think it had like a $5 billion budget and it's already blown through that. What is next January going to be like for those who MUST obtain insurance and don't need it (the young and healthy, you know, the folks who voted for the President) because of the mandatory nature of getting insurance or pay a fine. They're going to get a big helping of, "oh, I didn't realize that this was going to happen to ME!"

Get ready, your pocketbook is about to get a lot lighter...

I'm sure no one will express their anger and disbelief. BHO will get a pass from his fans like he always does...meanwhile, our country sinks further and further into debt...

I'm probably wasting my time, but educated people who aren't susceptible to close-minded views, consider this. Yes, it's true that gas prices were very low at the end of the Bush presidency, but that was because the ECONOMY was COLLAPSING!! In addition, gas prices was above $4 a gallon during the Bush era. Here's the facts from the Energy Information Act: http://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=pet&s=emm_epmr_pte_nus_dpg&f=w

tywebb 1 year, 1 month ago

please enlighten as to HOW a "collapsing economy" results in gas prices dropping $2 in 5 months. my opinion, once the oil companies saw that Americans wouldn't change our driving habits after the gas prices went through the roof after Katrina......they knew they could have their way with us and not even use lube.

1

agirl_25 1 year, 1 month ago

free, how many people do you think actually can read and understand the information on that chart? I know I can't.....my brother-in- law is an options trader and I turn to him when I have a question and he said the same thing I heard on the news about gas prices....China is demanding more oil so OPEC is allowing the pumping of more barrels and prices are rising...and someone is making a load of money...and smiling all the way to the bank.

1

free_ur_mind 1 year, 1 month ago

I guess I should have followed up that during that huge dip at the end of the 2008 and 2009, our economy was declining at a rate of almost 10%, which is unheard of. By the way, your brother-in-law is right. China is one of the main reasons why gas prices are rising and not Obama.

1

USTPC 1 year, 1 month ago

You are right about China demand but Obama is part of the problem as well. His resistance/refusal to approve the Keystone pipeline from Canada is part of the problem. Approval and completion of that pipeline would go a long ways toward lower gas prices.

0

agirl_25 1 year, 1 month ago

There has been a long standing congressional tradition of allowing members to attach unrelated bills onto "must pass" legislation and obiviously appropriations bills are of the highest of must pass bills......right? Appropriations bills have always been rife with legislative riders. Anyway, the January 1. 2012 SS payroll tax cut, for example, that was scheduled to expire then, along with unemployment insurnace also had a rider attached. It was a 60-day deadline for the POTUS to decide whether to approve Keystone pipeline and a provision about applying EPA approved pollution standards to industrial boilers.....the provisions added at the request of the house Republicans. So that is why it wasn't signed that time. Any no.....I don't watch Fox...I would rather be bitten by one ...thankyouverymuch.....

0

agirl_25 1 year, 1 month ago

OK come on.......here I sit guys...5 hours later...waiting for my chewing out......I think you know by now I don't give a rat's rear end who is president...but I did want to make that clear about riders........and you know how I have pushed Civics 101 for everyone...i honestly do believe if people understood the very basics of government and had a better grasp of how it runs they would calm down a bit.....so come on...let's hear it....let the arse chewing begin.....who will be the first to call me a bleeding heart liberal........hahahhaha
