Commission OKs mall parcel rezoning

ALBANY, Ga. — The Albany City Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to change the zoning of an out parcel near the Albany Mall to allow for retail development.

The tentative vote, which has to be ratified at a business meeting later this month to be official, would change the zoning of the parcel on Westover Boulevard from C-7, or mixed-use planned development district, to C-3, or commercial district.

The change was approved by the Planning Commission with caveat that the development be limited to retail sales, restaurants, offices or personal and office support uses.

During its Thursday meeting, the Planning Commission discussed possible tenants, including Gander Mountain, an outdoors retailer, that might move into the 5.63-acre spot across from Outback Steakhouse.

The local Outdoor related stores must be thinking sell, sell, sell.

Gander Mountain merchandise is not cheap. I've shopped at one in Wisconsin and found the firearms prices to be average. Columbia branded clothing only about 5% less expensive than our local outdoor clothing stores.

I don't know about that. The ones I've been to (around Jacksonville) are similarly priced to other outdoor-oriented stores like the Bass Pro Shops. Not to mention larger choices in merchandise than most of the local stores.

I would love to see Best Buy in Albany, however they are not doing too well financially. They might not be around in 5 years. :(

HH Gregg would be a good alternative to Best Buy...

I'm not a fan of HH Gregg at all. All those commissioned employees are like sharks when you walk in. Anything would be a step up from what we have now though.

Just what we need another redneck related business.

We need a Macy's, a Best Buy or HH Gregg, and was disappointed that they are building a Chik Fil A in front of the new Publix. Why can't we get something we don't already have like a Red Robin, Dunkin Donuts, or Boston Market!?!?

Judy is already working on how to "dig in their pockets" before they can even open for business.....At this very minute she is drooling over how many Trees she can make them plant on that open lot just so they can build a new business in “her” Albany. Spend their money Judy spend it……..it cost you nothing.
