Guests enjoy at ride through the Chehaw Sip & Safari at a previous fundraiser.
ALBANY, Ga. — Despite the rainstorms anticipated for this weekend, the plans are still moving forward with Chehaw's biggest fundraiser of the year.
The "Sip and Safari" event is set for 5 p.m.-10 p.m. on Saturday at Chehaw. The fourth annual fundraiser is taking place at the park's 40-acre safari expedition exhibit.
"(The attendees) will be right up close to the animals," said Tonya Hart, marketing and development director for Chehaw. "This is our big fundraiser of the year; it's just a whole lot of fun."
Coordinators say that zebras, ostriches and wildebeest will be among the animal encounters for the crowd. The event is anticipated to include cocktails, safari, live and silent auction, dinner and dancing to the music of Papa Sol.
The cocktails will take place from 5 p.m.-7 p.m., with the dinner and dancing to take place until 10 p.m. Among the auction items will be trips to Hawaii and Costa Rica, Hart said.
The 2012 event was the first to be held in the exhibit, reflecting a change in scenery from Fowler Farm.
Ticket sales are expected to remain open through today. As of Thursday morning, there had been more than 350 tickets sold for the event — which is roughly on par with the same number of tickets that have been sold for the event in the past, Hart said.
The money raised typically goes to help offset the operating costs of running the 700-acre park and its facilities, Hart said.
Tickets are $135 a person.
Chehaw is at 105 Chehaw Park Road, which is located just off of Philema Road. For more information, or for tickets, call Hart at (229) 430-5295.
