Squawk of the day - Feb. 26, 2013

"So sick of hearing the Hollywood liberal elite rant about subjects political, ecological, economical and religious. They are ignorantly informed, make wild statements and do these things for ratings and their shock value. Maybe it manifests from being ashamed of how easily they earn their millions."

It is funny how the media elevates actors and athletes opinions to the point that we forget that they are not experts in that particular subject matter.

So, you want to hear "free speech" only if the speaker agrees with you?

No, that would be the liberal viewpoint. You know, the one where free speech cannot be limited unless of course your viewpoint does not agree with theirs and then you are a racist, hater, bigot, etc. and need to shut up.

I think what the squawker is saying is that simply because they have achieved fame through the entertainment industry does not make them an expert on world issues and yet they act like they are and make statements like they are. If these same actors/actresses tried to play doctor or lawyer to you the response would (or at least should be) disbelief. But let them comment on politics or the economy or religion and all the sudden millions listen to what they say mostly because they are too lazy to do their own research.

Being famous gives a person a platform that the rest of us do not have and with that should come some responsibility.

I also think you're leaving out the part that most famous personalities use their fame to exploit fans either through endorsements for which they are usually well compensated of for their personal view on how much money we should donate to help them save dogs, cat, whales, etc...I understand being famous is sometimes hard work and not all its cut out to be, but if you don't like it don't complain just quit.

Do you realize that "free speech" works both ways? If you are willing to share an opinion, be prepared for responses to that opinion. If the "liberal viewpoint" isn't the same, they may respond. You don't live in a bubble.

For example, Obama was criticized for using children when addressing the gun issue, when Bush did the exact same thing. Conservatives criticize Obama, liberals point out that Bush did the same thing without being criticized. Both are making "free speech." When Hollywood liberals voice their opinions, conservatives call them stupid, uninformed, and irresponsible. Again, both are making "free speech."

Millions of people who are too lazy/stupid to form their own opinions just listen to one side of those in the public eye who voice their opinions, and are swayed to vote liberal? Believing that is why the 2008 and 2012 elections went the way they did. People who don't agree with you aren't stupid for having a different opinion. "They are stupid" isn't a campaign slogan. Respect your opponent, or prepare to lose again in 2016.

I realize free speech works both ways and I have no problem with that. I do not expect everyone to agree with me on everything.

Here is the problem I have. In conversations with a large percentage of Liberals, if they start losing an argument because of fact, logic, common sense they resort to name calling, talking louder than the other person, and walking away. As a generality they are ruled by emotion. Not all, but a large percentage. There is no way to discuss anything with someone who is ruled by emotion. It does not matter what you say.

Use gun control for example. The gun control measures being implemented in some states and being talked about in Washington DC will do little to reduce the number of gun deaths. They will also result in an increase in crime and violence because people cannot defend themselves. These are facts. But from an emotion standpoint liberals in general support the restrictions on law abiding citizens. No amount of logic, facts, or common sense will change their minds. I know, because I have tried as have numerous other people.

As far as your comment about millions not being swayed to vote liberal by those in the entertainment industry or media, all I can say is you need to watch some of the you tube videos where people who voted for Obama were interviewed. They were uninformed and had no idea what Obama's agenda or plan for our country was. The interviewer presented a Romney or McCain idea as if it were an Obama idea and they said they loved it. But if they presented an Obama idea as either McCain's or Romney's idea and they said they hated it. Would you not call that lazy that they did not even know what they were voting for? So how did they decide who to vote for? I think it is safe to assume they relied on their favorite actor/actress or the socialist media.

Want another example of liberal thought? When the fiscal cliff was averted and the payroll tax holiday ended did you read any of the comments from the liberal side? The disbelief that Obama lied about taxes increasing was funny. It was funny because anyone who actual paid attention to the issues were well aware that taxes were going to increase regardless of whether Obama or Romney was elected.

How about the war on women that the Democrats shouted about? Again, anyone that did any research at all knew that there was nothing that Romney could do to change the current abortion laws and yet they believed Ashley Judd and other celebrities and the socialist media who said if Romney was elected their choice of whether or not to kill their baby as a form of birth control would be lost.

I never called anyone stupid. I do think they are uninformed by choice and rely on celebrities and others to tell them how to vote. The idolatry of celebrities that is practiced by people in this country is ridiculous to the point that what celebrities say does influence how people vote.

You can bet all those rich snobs in Hollywood have well paid accountants to make sure they pay as LITTLE of their "fair share" as they can!!!

Agirl_25 knows a little something about not paying his or her fair share of taxes owed to the government thanks to well paid tax experts. :)

Actors/Actresses live a lie, they live a script. They actually believe that is who they are and when the script changes, so do they. I watched Russel Crowe give a lecture on the longbow since he had played Robin Hood in a movie. It was hilarious. He was so solemn in demonstrating his expertise which was very nearly nonexistent. Nothing personal against Russell, that is just his profession. So when they come out against or in favor of anything, they are living a script. It don't mean nothin.

I can remember a meeting of the John Birch Society where a Central American Guest Speaker asked me a truthful question. You do realize that John Wayne and Ronald Reagan are actors, don't you? To which I replied, "Name me one politician in either of our Countries that isn't."

How do you suppose these actors became so damned popular and rich?
