ALBANY, Ga. -- A driver checking her text messages crashed into two parked cars, including an Albany Police Department patrol car, and sent an officer to the hospital at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, a police report stated.
Officer Garnet Tyron Lincey was released from the hospital and is doing well at home, APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said.
According to the police report, 22-year-old Lauren Audreana Owens, of the 100 block of Story Lane, Leesburg, was cited for failure to maintain lane, no driver's license on person and texting while driving. No alcohol or drug test was given after the crash.
Driving a 2001 green Nissan Pathfinder along the 1000 block of West Broad Avenue, Owens first hit Timmie Lee Shelton's tan 2000 Ford Crown Victoria, bounced off and then smashed into the rear of the police car.

I hope they slap Ms Owen's butt with the harshest penalties allowed within the law and make her an example the beginning of the New Year that the state will NOT tolerate breaking the TEXTING law..or any laws that are in effect while driving. There is no reason that anyone needs to text anyone while driving....period...there is NO ONE and no message that important that another person's life should be put at risk over a stupid text....Thankfully the idiot was not on a highway going at a high speed for can you imagine what havoc she could have caused........someone could have been a highway statistic.......I hope she gets jail time and a stiff fine.

I hope they follow the law and get her the maximum punishment possible, but mom or dad will get her off.

Maybe she will claim she became mentally disoriented after checking her text messages and they will let her off like that lady that totalled those other two cars.
Another example of a stupid person texting while driving. These people are just as dangerous as a drunk driver on the road. If you are to text or check text messages, pull over somewhere before you kill someone. Is texting that important that you will risk killing someone while texting?

I don't know how stiff of a penalty she will get. She's from Lee County. Who are her parents? How much money do they have? Ya'll know how that works. She'll probably just get a light sentence....3 days punishment. No driving until her car gets fixed and no texting until her parents get her a new cell phone. lol...I'm just saying that all Lauren will get is a slap on the butt.

Like a lot of the thugs in Albany do.

VSU be logical sometimes. The thugs in Albany and Lee County only wish that they could get the light sentence Lauren will get, The only reason she was in the Herald is because she hit a police officer.
