ALBANY, Ga. -- A stash of 337 grams of marijuana, a .22-caliber handgun and 37 bullets stuffed in a pink, Darton College tote bag, surprised a Postal Service carrier before 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, authorities said.

An Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit agent holds a kilo of cocaine package that was reported thrown in the Flint River after a high-speed chase of a suspect Wednesday.

"He was opening the bank of mailboxes for apartments at 1301 South McKinley St. when it popped out," said Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit Commander Maj. Bill Berry. "He took it back to the post office. They called APD (the Albany Police Department), and because it was drugs, they called us."

According to Berry, the woman whose mail is delivered to the mailbox told investigators that the key to the box had disappeared previously and could have been stolen. With mail service on a holiday schedule, the box could have been used as a stash location without anyone disturbing it.

Drug agents continue the investigation into who left the stash -- worth about $2,000 if it is medium quality, more than double that if high quality on average in Georgia, according to the website thepriceofweed.com.

Berry said the case is the first in which he has seen a free-standing, cluster mailbox used for a drug stash. As of Thursday evening, there were no suspects.

I've always heard that the drug business is the only business growing in DoCo; must be true. Maybe that's why there's so many caddy's, benz, and bmw's being driven by hoe's and hood's who think they own the roads and can drive any way they want; screw the laws and other drivers...gotta make my drop.

I think you're on to something, rain......

Every day I see 7-Series BMWs ($140,000 vehicle) with blacked out windows, including the windshield, and I KNOW the driver did not purchase the car with legal tender that was earned legally.

So roughly .75 lbs/12 oz. of marijuana is worth that much? Can you pay for that with an EBT card?

I know the postal service is hurting for business but......jk.....Actually it was stupid for someone to leave that much in drugs in a mailbox. I guess maybe someone made the drop but the person that was to receive it never came and got it, either that or they were stupid enough to think that would be a good hiding place.

This poor postal worker would probably be wise to change his route. Otherwise I'm concerned he may face retaliation from these thugs. They have killed for a lot less.
