CORDELE, Ga. — Retail businesses in the River Valley District, which includes Crisp and Dooly counties, have begun collecting an additional 1 percent sales tax, after voters in that region approved a controversial Transportation Sales Tax initiative last Summer.
Consumers in that area will pay more for most items they purchase in order to fund transportation projects, which include a new bridge and four-laning of U.S. Highway 280, the Cordele Dispatch reported.
The River Valley District was one of only three Georgia districts to approve the T-SPLOST measure. The nine others voted the measure down.
