ALBANY — The Darton State College women’s basketball team cruised to a 66-33 win Monday night against East Georgia behind a game-high 20 points from Michelle Mitchell, who also added seven rebounds. Jasmine Wilson chipped in 11 points and seven assists for Darton, which won its sixth game in a row to improve to 16-2 overall and 8-1 in conference.
The win sets up the biggest showdown of the year in the region between current No. 2 Darton and No. 1 Georgia Highlands, which is a first-year program and coached by former South Georgia Tech coach Brandan Harrell, whose team is unbeaten in conference so far.
ASU MEN, WOMEN FALL:
ALBANY — The Albany State men’s and women’s basketball teams dropped a pair of conference contests Monday night as both squads fell to Tuskegee.
The Lady Rams (3-6, 1-1) lost, 63-52, despite leading by as many as 10 points in the second half.
“Once they came back, we just didn’t respond,” ASU coach Robert Skinner said. “This is a game we should’ve won.”
ASU’s men, meanwhile, fell behind early and never recovered, losing, 72-55.
The final scoring stats for the Rams and Lady Rams’ games were available at press time.
ASU’s teams will next host Stillman on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
TERRELL ACADEMY BOYS, GIRLS ROUT RANDOLPH SOUTHERN:
SHELLMAN — With four players scoring in double figures, Terrell Academy’s boys basketball team downed Randolph Southern on Monday, 69-61.
Conor Walsh (14 points), Gable Freeman (13), Raleigh Carlson (12) and Caleb Waters (11) led TAE, which improved to 5-6, while Randolph Southern remained winless.
The Patriots were led by Rhett Ragan’s game-high 21 points, followed by 17 each from Blake Lamb and Logan Eubanks.
TERRELL ACADEMY GIRLS 85, RANDOLPH SOUTHERN 41: Marilauren Farr led the way with 22 points, Olivia Rogers added 17 and Lauren Barfield chipped in 12 as the Lady Eagles rolled, despite 20 points from Randolph’s Parker Rigsby.
Both TAE teams next host Westwood today.
