Can any Tom, Dick, or Harry jump into a 747 and fly it into a building?

0

waltspecht 1 year, 8 months ago

No, but any Tom, Dick or Harry can't run a firearm. Countless Police Lives have been saved when a Perp hasn't been able to figure out how to get the weapon out of a security holster, or get the safety off the weapon once in their posession. Both arguments don't really apply, trying to use them for comparison only muddy's the water. Look, firearms of the semi-automatic type have been around a long time. High Capacity mags were available in th 1920's for the Winchester semi-auto and the 1911 pistol. The first frame contained high cap was the Browning Hi-Power criteria1934. For years, the Director of Civilian Marksmanship sold M-1 Carbines with ammo and hi cap mags. Why is it suddenly a problem? You sure the problem isn't Society itself? What we have allowed to pass as Justice, mental health care and allowable behavior is misconstrued with the tools some of these misfits utilize. I believe that a simple tool is being attacked, because people do not want to address the issue of a peoples failing moral fiber. It is the American Culture, in comparison to say the Swiss Culture that accepts abhorant behavior. That is probably why we have such a high murder rate, from all means, as compared to them.

Sure after they go to flight school in the U.S. like the terrorists who flew into the twin towers. If you worry more about terrorist & mental health than taking my rights you would be better off.

0

Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 1 year, 8 months ago

That would disqualify them from being "any Tom, Dick, or Harry."

"Can any Tom, Dick, or Harry jump into a 747 and fly it into a building?"

Any Tom, Dick or Harry can operate a baseball bat, which were used to kill more people than rifles for the last decade. You libtards who think banning a particular type of rifle will have an impact on violent death are silly.

4

Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 1 year, 8 months ago

A four year old can kill his or her parents with a bat?

0

Jacob 1 year, 8 months ago

I understand that you base your opinions on your emotions and what the liberal media tells you to think, but if you will actually read the data on violent death in the U.S., you will (hopefully) understand that deaths by ALL rifles, including non assault weapons, only account for approximately 3%. Baseball bats and hammers are higher than that. Jumping on the granola eater bandwagon and crying about those mean black guns is like peeing in your pants to stay warm in the winter. It will feel good for a few minutes, but won't really fix the problem.

So we stick our collective heads in the ground and hope nothing bad happens with the abundance of weapons easily available?

0

Jacob 1 year, 8 months ago

No. We address the real issue. We start treating the mentally ill and re-institutionalizing those who need it. We start controlling the violence on television that desensitizes generations of young people to real violence. Most of all, we don't continue to blame the pencil for what is written.

0

Sherwood_Eagle_Alum 1 year, 8 months ago

Money is the most important thing in today's politics. There is too much money associated with violent shows, movies, video games, music...etc. It's free speech... We would have a better chance trying to forcefully remove all weapons from the citizen of this country.

0

Jacob 1 year, 8 months ago

We would have another civil war. Make no mistake

RedEric 1 year, 8 months ago

All of the shooters have had mental health problems. All of them have been on pharmaceuticals like Prozac. These drugs are great for the vast majority of users, but cause problems with some. We will face this problem even locally as mental health care changes and institutionalized people are released. They will not be in an institution where they are safe and monitored. Instead they will be in your neighborhood. Why hasn't big pharmaceutical been questioned about these problems with their product? Why hasn't the health care profession been questioned about releasing mentally disturbed into your neighborhood? Why is it all about guns? I know why.

Timothy McVeigh used a U-Haul truck and fertilizer. A sick person will kill no matter what. I’ll be keeping my guns thank you.

3

RedEric 1 year, 8 months ago

An investigator said he knew it was fertilyzer because he found white pellets all over the ground. That means the fertilizer did NOT explode. This was a very sophisticated directional explosion. At the targeted building reinforced concrete was destroyed. While on the other side of the street that buildings windows were intact. Very strange happenings with weak explanations.

Yes, put us all in a box but we can still work and pay taxes to live and give to others who sit on their front porches and smoke pot and gossip.

1

fcarroll 1 year, 8 months ago

VietVet1, you are so right and he killed 163 people at once and no one pushed the issue of the purchase of fertilizer. I too will keep my guns and ammo, it is my right as a 65 yr old female who has worked since the age of 14 to earn my right to vote, go to a church of my choice, and own a weapon, no matter what caliber. My cousin was murdered, and the weapon used was an extension cord, guess we need to outlaw those as well. We, as citizens of these United States must stand up for our rights or we will lose all that we have left.

Should airplanes be banned? I understand the point in the sarcasm and I understand where the writer is coming from. I think the reason "we the people" get upset any time someone threatens our second amendment right is due to what the founding fathers of our country envisioned. That is that we would need those firearms to protect ourselves against an invading army AND to protect ourselves if our own government threatened us. Our government has already taken away the right to life through legal abortion, so it is not a stretch to think they could abridge or take away our right to bear arms. And Walt is correct in saying that the moral fiber of our culture is in bad shape.

I would pay decent money to see Sister Ruby in an old western type shoot out with anyone. 10 paces, spin, and shoot.

Just line up 'liberals' and 'conservatives': as one goes down on either side, the next steps up.

Yeah, that works.

0

Sister_Ruby 1 year, 8 months ago

I would lose because I could not rotate my powered wheel chair fast enough while the other person is turning and shooting.

0

Jimboob 1 year, 8 months ago

No single answer will solve the problem so let's not try... We can have this debate again after the next mass shooting, and there will be a next one. I just hope it's not involving your kids or grand kids.

Cartman 1 year, 8 months ago

You can't legislate crazy people from ever hurting innocent people. All you end up doing is punishing the folks who didn't do anything wrong.

1

alleebrin 1 year, 8 months ago

I say, folks, the answer begins at home! People are having babies but they are not RAISING THEM! They dump them off on someone who's only interests are getting paid and end of shift! When the kid gets to be an adult and you wonder at his success/failure, just delve into his upbringing and you won't have to wonder at his/her outcome!

Violence has been going on since the beginning of time and will continue on till the end of time and nobody is going to be able to do anything to stop it.

1

agirl_25 1 year, 8 months ago

You are exactly right...and what Cartman said is true....no amount of legislation is going to ever stop the violence in this world we live in. Jimboob is also right...there will be another mass shooting so another oranged haired freak can have his 15 minutes of fame. How many of us can even remember the names of the boys who did the shootings in the last 3...and yet they continue. How sad to think that these ignorant silly boys want their names to live on in this way yet who among us can even remember who they were a month later? Such a waste of innocent lives..and for what...absolutely nothing.

2

Jimboob 1 year, 8 months ago

Everyone remembers Tim McVeigh...

0

agirl_25 1 year, 8 months ago

I think we remember McVeigh because we have the picture on TIME magazine of fireman Chris Fields carrying baby Baylee in his arms in the aftermath of what he did forever etched in our minds....and it will never go away. I know as a mother it will never leave mine. But unless I research it, I cannot recall what the name of the orange haired freak in the theater in Colorado, or who the kid was in New Hampshire and don't really give a damn. But I will never forget the names of Fields or Baylee.

0

VSU 1 year, 8 months ago

If they did this just to get their names published, they could simply stop publishing the names of these psychos if only it was that simple. Personally if I wanted to make a name for myself, I would rather be noted and/or remembered for saving someone's life rather than taking it, but that's just me. I guess these psychos feel left out of society and the only way to get back at them is to do what they do.

I believe that all US citizens should have the right to the means of self protection. But personally, I would feel safer if some citizen from half way across town didn't have the capacity to hit my house while defending his. Personally, I prefer the remington m870 and a semi-automatic handgun or revolver loaded with hollow points. That way when I miss I stand less of a chance of killing my neighbors. I do need a magazine capacity of at least 15 rounds for my semi-auto handgun though.

1

agirl_25 1 year, 8 months ago

True story rorschach....many years ago a neighbor of mine---an elderly lady, kind of mean but lovable, and the type who never bothered anyone and expected to be left alone, and I left her alone, had her 400 acres posted and never allowed hunting on it. She loved nature (nothing wrong with that). One day she was outside gathering firewood and she heard a strange noise and a ping and saw wood splinter off her cedar home and knew that some fool had slipped into her woods and was hunting and had not realized they aimed at a deer and shot towards her house. She was furious, went inside and got her husband's 30.06 and headed out into the woods with some binoculars. Wasn't long before she spotted a large white object... a brand new Dodge Ram 1500 truck, with a V8 Hemi engine it in. She didn't care if it was the hunter's truck or not, she supposed it probably was, so she shot it.....not just once..she made sure it was dead. I suppose your statement rings true--she had the right to self protection. I wonder how I would feel if someday someone sneaks out into my woods and I hear a bullet smash into my home. That has to be a scary feeling. That guy defending his home halfway across town may hit your house by accident but what about the fool who sneaks in the woods? Will either ever know they may have taken a life?

Today "Shoeless" Joe Biden stated that Obama could just create new gun legislation out of thin air by using the "Executive Order". Which made me realize......that's exactly why the Founding Fathers created the 2nd Amendment......to provide a measture of protection for us against a repressive dictator who doesn't think He has to answer to anyone and thinks He can rule with unchallenged authority. His Royal Majesty Barack Obama, for example.

I am afraid they will do that and that will not stand. This country has a history of strong protests and I am not talking about the sissy Vietnam protestors or occupy people. Farmers dumped milk and slaughtered livestock to protest government and nearly came to a shooting war..in the 1930s. I don't know if I'm happy that I am to old for it to matter or wish I was younger so I could enjoy it.

1

agirl_25 1 year, 8 months ago

In 1967 when I was on my way to join my husband in the Philippine Islands with my 2 babies..my little one was 16 months old and my girl was 3, a mob of Vietnam protestors attacked a bus full of GI's I was riding on. We were on our way to San Francisco to catch a flight and the fools started pelting us with rocks and overturned the bus. They kept yelling there were babies and women onboard but I bet you didn't see us on the 11 o'clock news.....did ya? They were not sissies.....they were idiots too.....!!! Hard leaving but coming back in was even harder......
