Randolph sheriff dies Saturday

Randolph County Sheriff Gary Yochum Sr. died at Patterson Hospital after collapsing at his home in Cuthbert early Saturday. He was 62 and had been elected to office for his fourth term. Lunsford Funeral Home plans to handle the arrangements ,which are not yet set.

Yochum had posted on his office website, randolphgasheriff.org, “It is with great pride that I am able to serve you, the citizens of Randolph County, as Sheriff. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office mission is simply to protect the rights and dignity of all citizens with courage, honor, and integrity. In partnership with our community, we strive to identify criminal activity, preserve the peace, and provide a safe environment for all. We will bring violators to justice and intervene and detect unsafe situations that could be harmful. Together we can make a difference.”
