Hope Gala to help fight cancer

ALBANY, Ga. — The local chapter of the American Cancer Society will hold its sixth annual Hope Gala of Dougherty County at the Hilton Garden Inn Feb. 9. This year's theme will be "Imagine ... a Cure."

According to Chelsea Cromer with the ACS, the event will feature a cash bar at 6:30 p.m., followed by a formal dinner with wine at 7:30 p.m. and dancing with music by The Hollywood Band beginning at 8:45 p.m. In addition, there will be both silent and live auctions.

Cromer said the ACS honoree for 2013 is W. David Campbell, a survivor of pancreatic cancer. Campbell was diagnosed in June 2011 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and underwent the "Whipple procedure" at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan the following month. He remains cancer-free, following subsequent chemotherapy treatments at Phoebe.

Tickets for the gala are $100 per person, plus an addition $25 for VIP access, and may be purchased online at gala.acsevent.org/hopeball or by calling (229) 446-0986.

Okay, I'm in for 2 tickets @ $125 each. I know Mr. Campbell, God Bless him. He has been to Sloan-Kettering a great institution and everyone is so excited about his progress. Now Phoebe, how will this money be spent to promote a cure. Tell us!
