The state basketball power rankings for Class A public schools were released Tuesday, and two area teams were on top.
Randolph-Clay's girls and Mitchell County's boys are the No. 1 teams in the two power rankings, which are determined by record and strength of schedule.
The Lady Red Devils (15-2) began the week ranked No. 1 in The Herald's Fab 5 Poll for all classes, and Mitchell's Eagles (14-3) were ranked fifth in the Fab. 5.
The state power rankings will determine which teams advance to the state playoffs. The region champions will get an automatic berth, but the rest of the 16-team field will be determined by the power rankings.
Seminole's boys team are ranked third behind Mitchell, which beat Seminole, 55-54, in overtime on Friday, and Wilcox County. The Indians are tied for third with state power Wilkinson County.
The Calhoun County girls, who play Randolph-Clay at home on Friday night, are ranked No. 9 in the power rankings, and the Mitchell County girls are ranked No. 10. Seminole's girls are ranked No. 14.
