ALBANY, Ga. — Shortly after he was sworn in as the Dougherty County School System’s interim superintendent Monday evening, contract details between David “Butch” Mosely and the school system were released.

The contract will be in effect through January of 2014 and will pay the Climax native $14,584 per month.

The contract contains a termination clause that says either party may end the contract without cause by giving 14 days notice prior to a specific termination date.

Mosely’s compensation package includes any and all expenses he might incur during his tenure, and the school system will have no responsibility for any said expenses other than the monthly payment.

In addition, the rules and regulations generally governing DCSS employees will have no application to Mosely except to the extent provided by statutes and laws of the state of Georgia.

Mosely will remain as interim superintendent until the Board of Education names a permanent replacement for former superintendent Joshua Murfree.

Good grief that is $175,000.00. I could do it for that and hire 4 qualified assistants at $50,000.00 per year and still take home $75,000.00. How in the world do we pay that kind of salaries from tax payers pockets. I could see $75,000.00 to $100,000.00 for a highly qualified person capable of doing the job. That is more than I make in 5 years. Good Grief !!

Keep in mind that this salary does not include the normal benefits of a DCSS employee, such as insurance and retirement. He is basically getting paid cash. He is responsible for any and all benefits. If you were to look at previous superintendents salaries plus benefits, I would bet the made more than $175,000 per year. Look around the state and you'll probably see that this is fair compensation for a School superintendent. Did you really think someone would step into the mess that is DCSS and not get paid? At least give him a chance. He's been on the job 3 days and you're already poor mouthing him. I don't have a dog in the hunt any more since I left the area but if you ever expect anyone to pull DCSS out of the mess it's in you're going to have to support him.

good points, outsidelookinin. Also the money paid to him includes "all expenses". Typically for a job of this type there would be a temporary living allowance and meals. When you consider all that, it is probably less than the previous superintendent.

Hopefully this guy cleans house! Then it will be well worth it.

He's already earned his first month's salary by busting Graper. Too bad he could not fire her. If he keeps up that kind of good work, he'll more than make up for the cost. Don't forget he's got to live in town here and has some expenses. Duhhhhh

You guys do realize that he has a PhD and he is running a multi-million dollar corporation???? He also is in a position where he works and is on call 24-7. This salary includes all benefits. This is a very fair salary for the job and the size of the dcss.

He doesn't have a Ph. D. He has an ED D from a mail order university program of NOVA. But never mind, we didn't get him here to lecture. If he can manage DCSS he'll be worth every penny of $15K +/- a month. But let's hope the newly organized board gets to more serious business than selling candy and shaking and baking. Saints preserve us.
