TIFTON, Ga. -- Former Tift County Sheriff Edd Walker, 84, died early Monday at his residence here.
Funeral arrangements are planned at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tift Avenue Church of God. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Walker had a 36-year law enforcement career including serving as Tift County Sheriff for 24 years until he retired in 1996. The Tift County native was active in numerous community organizations and was honored in recent years by having the road where the Tift County Jail is located named Edd Walker Way.
Walker received many professional awards during his law enforcement career and was active in the Georgia Sheriff's Association.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Barbara Ottis Monk Walker of Tifton; one daughter, Patricia Walker Fincher of Sylvester; one son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Mark Walker of Tifton; one brother, Glen Walker of Tifton, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Bowen-Donalson Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
