ALBANY -- Margaret Hurst Smith, died January 20, 2013 at her residence in Leesburg, GA.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Leesburg City Cemetery. Rev. Bobby Harrell and Judge Jim Thurmond officiating.
Born July 17, 1928 in Doerun, GA, Margaret grew up in a close, loving family that worked hard during the week, but was faithful to God on Sunday. She accepted Christ and joined Union Baptist Church in Doerun at the young age of 14 and has lived her life for Christ ever since.
Margaret met and married her true love, Charles Smith, and called Leesburg home where they have loved and been loved by everyone who knew them.
She taught G.A.'s at First Baptist Church Leesburg, then taught Sunday school until she retired. She was part of the Red Hat Ladies Society. She served on the Benevolence Committee, but you could find her anywhere there was a need. She had such a big, beautiful loving heart for everyone else that she always put others needs before her own.
She and Charles would always go with the church group on mission trips to help other churches in need.
She loved to travel with Charles and good friends. Their goal was to see every state and they almost did!
She loved her God, family, good friends, gardening, quilting, needlework, Wheel of Fortune and Chipper Jones.
She is survived by her brother, Charles Hurst in Lanett, AL; sons, Tommy Smith, Scottsboro, AL, Ricky Smith (Norma), Leesburg, GA, Jim Smith (Ann), Woodstock, GA and Stephen Smith (Becky), Leesburg, GA; daughters, Patricia Smith, Albany, GA and Kathryn Smith Booth, Albany, GA; 13 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; as well as so many good friends who love her and will cherish her in their hearts forever.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband and soul mate of 41 years, Charles L. Smith, granddaughter, Stephanie; her parents Sam and Lois Hurst; brothers: Millard, Heywood, Ronald and Wayne Hurst; and sister, Estelle Hurst.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Willson Hospice House, 320 Foundation Ln. Albany, GA 31707, where Margaret was very well taken care of by so many wonderful Christian people in such a peaceful serene setting.
Thank you Willson Hospice House for all you do for and mean to the families that you help through their time of sadness. May God Bless You! Margaret Hurst Smith family.
