Gala event to fund fight against domestic violence

ALBANY, Ga. -- The leadership at Liberty House are set for dinner, dancing and entertainment Saturday at the Oakland Library and Event Center in Lee County. The objective is to have a great time and raise money to help local victims of domestic abuse and violence, said Silke Deeley, Liberty House executive director.

According to Deeley, the third annual Pearls and Possibilities Gala will also feature live and silent auctions with available prizes such as beach house time on St. George Island and in Panama City, Fla., hand-made quilts and a desk chair with a Marine Corps emblem.

"There's even a wonderful, big blue wheelbarrow with a variety of alcoholic beverages," Deeley said.

Dinner will be provided by Grapevine Catering, with music by "Nightfire," performing a variety of pop, rock and country tunes.

"This is our biggest fundraiser of the year," Deeley said, "and we have high hopes for a big turnout. Private contributions are more important now than ever, with the possibility of government funding cutbacks."

Social hour and the silent auction will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner, dancing and a live auction from 7 a.m. till 10 p.m. Tickets for the event, which are $50 each and include two drink tickets, are available at Love Letters and Custom Interiors, or by calling (229) 439-7094.
