They weren't used way before cell phones....

When you slow or stop and turn in front of me without using your turn signal......yes that's me sitting down on the horn as I pass your lazy, sorry, discourteous, lawbreaking butt.

I agree that cell phones are hindrances to alert driving and smooth traffic flow particularly at turns and entrances.

I hate to see what goes on inside cars after the self driving feature becomes perfected.

Yes Sir, lets blame the cell phone instead of the idiot behind the wheel. Then how about we blame the Police for not ticketing these folks because they are too busy talking on the Cell. I wonder if the City and County could supena the records of the Officer's cell phones and determine just how much time they are wasting each shift on non-police business. It has been a long time since I have seen an Officer not talking on a cell phone while sitting, or driving in a Patrol Car.

MGySgt, USMC~Ret Please remember that MOST police officer are just people trying to get a job done. My Son is a police officer and he conducts about 75% of his POLICE business on his personel cell phone. The radio traffic is so heavy that if he waited for a clear channel his routine day would have to be twice as long to accomplish the same amount of work. Yes, he makes or answers a few non-business calls during the day, but far fewer than you might imagine.

If he is not using a headset with his cell phone while operating his police cruiser, then he is breaking a state law that requires the use of headsets. If he dials the phone while operating his cruiser, then he is a distracted driver and has a conflict of interest if he writes a ticket to someone who does the same thing. This really upsets me to think that you would defend your police officer son's actions. How can he write a ticket for someone dialing a cell phone when, according to your statement, he does the same thing? What a serious double standard.

Lets do away with cars because they are too stupid to not turn the blinker on when it turns. Get real folks. Mindset of our nation. Let's blame it on Bush. That is who did it. Lets for sure add a possible another term and I am going to nominate Bush because he was so powerful and smart. Everything wrong with the country he did. But I sure would like to see his gas prices again. He's got my vote!

Stupidity is the reason turn signals aren't being used.....
bigbob 3 months, 3 weeks ago
Your right flunkmonkey, I was thinking the same thing. Albany has by far the worst drivers anywhere & I been all over this country.

I agree, I used to work in downtown Tampa & the Friday afternoon drive was better than Slappey Blvd.

A great big "Amen" if you have seen City/County employees driving while talking on their cell phone and/or smoking within City/County vehicles. IF local government buildings are designated as "No Smoking" areas then why not City/County vehicles? I, for one, do not see any reason a City or County employee should have a need to carry a cell phone while at work.
MGYSGTUSMC 3 months, 3 weeks ago
MGYSGT, USMC~Ret I really don't care if a city worker uses a personel cell phone at work. What has me steamed is the CAR. Why does Albany provide a vehicle, gas, vehicle maintenance, insurance and who knows what else to over 250 city workers? I thounght the city budget was tight. We could also question the results of the investigation where 100,000 gallons of city auto-gas dissappeared.

Wow! Good question. Inquiring minds want to know.

And another thing, even tho I don't live in Albany and this did not occur there I am sure it does daily. I once saw a city employee come out of an office and get into a city car and drive about 1/2 a block to go to lunch!! If that was not the height of laziness and waste of tax dollars you tell me what was!! She went into a little shop and was in it about 3 minutes, came out with a sack, got in the city car, drove back the 1/2 block, (had to go around the town square) got out of the car and went back in her place of work. I was in our car waiting for my husband to come out of the courthouse where he was doing some business and saw it.......YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK, folks.

Michelle O'bama put a stop to all that when she started wearing her hair in bangs.

No, auto makers need to move the switch down to where the left knee can operate it while the right knee is steering, the left hand is holding the phone and the right hand is changing the radio station...
FlunkyMonkey 3 months, 3 weeks ago
Put it where the dimmer switch used to be. Click once for left and twice for right!!

It is not only turn signals and cell phones that cause concern...I had to swerve today on North Jefferson because a women in a grey BMW panic stopped at a rail crossing. I had to swerve to miss her and there was not a train on the track or any reason to go from 50 to 0 in 1.5 seconds then inch across the track.

The squawk box makes my day!
It's really frustrating to be walking, waiting at a corner to cross the street because a car is coming and then have the car turn the opposite way with no turn signal.
But, it's also frustrating to be driving behind someone making a right or left turn, with a signal, and they have to come to almost a complete stop to turn.
But, I think most of us wish the other drivers on the road could drive as well as we can!
Cartman 3 months, 3 weeks ago
Solution: Why don't they put the turn signal controls as an app for your phone? It could Bluetooth to your car. : )

Great idea Cartman!
