City makes board appointments

ALBANY, Ga. — The Albany City Commission took care of some of its mandatory housecleaning chores at its first business meeting of 2013 Tuesday night, appointing (or reappointing) local citizens to a number of boards and commissions.

Among the appointees approved at Tuesday’s meeting:

  • Ward V Commissioner Bob Langstaff, Albany-Dougherty Aviation Commission;
  • Dr. Willie Adams, mayor’s appointment to Aviation Commission;
  • Ward I Commissioner Jon Howard, Pension Board;
  • Gary Nevins, the Rev. Ernest Davis (mayor’s appointments), Albert Givens (Ward I appointment), Ed Brown (Ward IV appointment), Police Civilian Review Board;
  • LaNicia Hart, Tommy Gregors, Charles Ochie, Albany-Dougherty Inner City Authority Board (Hart, a reappointment, was recently elected to chair that board);
  • Milan Patel, Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission;
  • Danny Blackshear, Albany-Dougherty Payroll Development Authority;
  • Hamp Smith, Yvonne Jackson, Planning Commission;
  • Lisa Whittaker, Elaine Lewallen, Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful;
  • Ward III Commissioner Christopher Pike, Stephen Kaplan, Demetrius Love, Southwest Georgia Regional Commission;
  • Judith Corbett, Chad Warbington, Water, Gas & Light Commission Board;
  • Stephen Dew, Charles Ochie, Joint Board of Adjustments and Appeals;
  • Willie Emerson, Edward West, Sanford Hillsman, Joint Electrical Board;
  • Mark Holloway, William Walker, Sanford Hillsman, Gas Board;
  • Thomas Driggers, Eural Chastang, Joint Plumbing Board;
  • Billy Goodson, Sanford Hillsman, Thomas Driggers, Clifford Tolbert, Heating and Air Conditioning Board.

The commission also appointed Ward VI Commissioner Tommie Postell to serve as mayor pro tem for the year. The appointment is made yearly on a rotating basis, based on the various city wards.
