ALBANY, Ga. -- Armed robberies and a shooting suspect apprehension made for a busy night Wednesday and into Thursday for the Albany Police Department.

Among the incidents was a kidnapping, armed robbery and aggravated assault reported to have taken place at Mercer Avenue and Davis Street around 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

The victim, identified as Anthony Pittman, told police he was approached by an unknown black male wearing blue jeans, a white shirt and a black jacket while at the intersection's stop sign in a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina. The suspect reportedly pointed a handgun at him through his car window and demanded he unlock the door.

According to Pittman, the suspect walked around the vehicle, got in the vehicle and made him drive to the West Lincoln Avenue alley before demanding his wallet. The victim stated that he then jumped out of the vehicle and ran away.

The suspect drove away with the vehicle, which was recovered at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday on the 1300 block of Avalon Avenue.

This case remains active pending further investigation, police said.

Meanwhile, police managed to catch up to a shooting suspect that had been at large at the 400 block of Cedar Avenue when, at approximately 2 a.m. on Thursday, Antwan Ronell Lamons, 24, was taken into custody by the APD Gang Unit with the assistance of Albany-Dougherty SWAT.

When police arrived on the scene, they learned that Lamons had barricaded himself in the attic of a duplex located on the 400 block of Cedar Avenue. Several people were evacuated from a neighboring duplex as well as the duplex where Lamons was hiding. Attempts made by negotiators to convince the suspect to exit the attic were unsuccessful, police said.

At that point, SWAT proceeded with a tactical measure by throwing canisters of gas into the attic and vents. The fumes forced Lamons out of the attic with no further incidents, and he was transported to the Dougherty County Jail, police said.

A lookout had been issued for Lamons for his suspected involvement in a shooting that took place on Cherry Avenue Monday morning.

The APD also responded to an aggravated assault and attempted armed robbery at about 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday at 1905 S. Madison St., Suite 4 -- the site of Talk Alot Unlimited Communication.

Two males reportedly entered the store. One of the suspects pointed a gun, but fled the scene once they realized they were on surveillance video, police said.

A 16-year-old juvenile was apprehended a short time later on the 600 block of Harmon Avenue by gang unit investigators and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

There are still two unknown males at large, police said.
