Lewis-Polite wins DCSS Teacher of the Year April 17, 2014


Kathryn V. Chestnut

ALBANY -- Kathryn V. Chestnut, 96, died Friday, January 18, 2013 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

A native of Finleyson, GA, she moved to Albany in 1936. Mrs. Chestnut was the daughter of J. C. and Kathie Lee VanLandingham, and was one of 11 children. She worked at S. K. Kress & Co. for 30 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church for over 70 years where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Elder, and pianist for over 60 years, and organist for 25 years.

Mrs. Chestnut was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Chestnut, parents, J.C. and Kathie Lee VanLandingham, brothers, Edwin, J.C., Marvin, Harris, Harold, and Dewitt; sisters, Lucile Birdsong and Virginia Nash.

She is survived by two sisters: June Dollman (Fred), Yorkville, IL, Patricia Waszczak, Atlanta; many nieces and nephews; good friends and caretakers, Carolyn Register and Anne Johnson.

Interment services will be private. A memorial service will be incorporated with the morning worship service at 10:45 AM, Sunday, January 27, 2013 at First Christian Church, 416 N. Westover Blvd., Albany, GA 31707 with the Rev. Tommy Lowery officiating.
