DONALSONVILLE — Calhoun County’s girls just cracked The Herald’s Fab 5 Poll at No. 5 recently.
But Seminole County’s girls may have assured that ranking doesn’t last long.
The Lady Indians (12-5, 8-2) picked up a huge region win Saturday night when Katrese Brown poured in 25 points, Marissa Mike added 15 and Alexus Watson pulled down a staggering 21 rebounds. Herald Super 6er Brandi Buie had 25 of her own, but it wasn’t enough to give Calhoun (13-6) the win. Destiny McIntyre added 10 points for Calhoun in the loss.
Seminole now gets set for a non -region game Tuesday at home against Early County, while Calhoun will try to rebound at Worth County on Friday.
DWS boys 71, Southland 11: Herald Super 6er Ramello Carter led the Knights with 20 points, followed by Weston King with 16 and Jay Barber with 10. The game had six-minute quarters shortly after halftime.
DWS improved to 15-3 overall and stayed perfect in region at 5-0 and will next play Terrell Academy on Tuesday.
Worth County boys 57, Fitzgerald 44: Led by Justin Green’s 10 points and nine points and 16 rebounds from Anfernee McLemore, the Rams stayed hot and improved to 11-9 overall.
Next up, however, Worth heads back to region play, where it’s 4-6 overall and facing at Albany High team on Tuesday at home for a chance to improve its standing.
Cook girls 63, Baker 50: Rakeshia Smith led the Lady Bears with 15 points and Cierra Hawkins added 15, but it wasn’t enough as Baker fell to 4-15 overall with Miller County up next Friday at home.
Seminole County boys 81, Calhoun 69: The Indians (15-3 overall, 2-1 in subregion) stayed on a roll as they got five players in double figures in Saturday’s win: John Hudson and Jamal Martin had 16, points each, followed by Jordan Harris (15), Jakhari Martin (11) and Jahmyka Pearson (10). Calhoun was led by Quentin Taylor (19 points), Dajohn Williams (15) and Sherrod Williams 14.

DWS GIRLS 56, SOUTHLAND 42: Jordan Lane and Nyla Perry combined for 39 points Saturday to lead the Lady Knights to a GISA Region 3-AAA win.
Lane led the way with 20 points, five rebounds, four steals and two blocks, while Perry added 19 points. Ella Hawkins scored 20 points to lead Southland.
Deerfield improved to 9-11 overall and 4-1 in the region and will play again Tuesday at home against Terrell Academy.
BAINBRIDGE BOYS 40, CAIRO 30: The Herald No. 3 Bearcats got 13 points from Dontavius Marshall in Saturday’s win., which handed the Bearcats their first region loss in five years in their first meeting.
Lee County boys 63, Harris County 50: Stephen Collier led the way with 22 points, Jaysyn Brown added 19 and the Trojans rolled Saturday night to move to .500 at 3-3 in the region after losing Friday to TCC.
Next up is a rematch with Bainbridge — in Bainbridge — on Tuesday. Lee handed the Bearcats their first region loss in five years in the first meeting.
Pelham girls 51, Mitchell 38: Led by Herald Super 6er Briunna Freeman, who scored a game-high 23 points, the Lady Hornets finished off a clean sweep on their neighboring rivals Saturday. Timbreanna Hudson added 10 for Pelham in the win, which stretched the Lady Hornets’ record to 17-3 overall.
Fellow Super 6er A’Miracle Jones had a rough night, scoring just four points as Mitchell was led by Shombreka Holton with nine points.
