ALBANY, Ga. — Armed robbery and aggravated assault incidents were among those the Albany Police Department responded to on Sunday, with one involving a yellow minivan taxi, reports show.
Diego Perez, 24, was attacked in his own backyard about 6:30 p.m. on the 700 block of Moultrie Road, according to APD reports.
Two unknown males demanded money from Perez as he was struck several times with a stick. The two fled the scene after taking his wallet, police said. Police also said Perez received a large laceration to the left side of his head and was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment.
A hospital spokeswoman said Monday afternoon that Perez had been discharged.
An aggravated assault was also reported just after 2 a.m. in which a 59-year-old man ended up with a stab wound to the head, APD reports indicate.
Bobby Thomas came into the emergency center at Phoebe North with the stab wound, after which the hospital staff notified police, officials with the APD said Monday. The victim was promptly admitted for treatment, and he was immediately unable to provide information regarding how he sustained the injury, officials said.
Thomas has also since been discharged from the hospital, a spokeswoman from Phoebe said Monday afternoon.
At 1:20 a.m. at 1001 Dunes Ave., there was a theft by two men who picked up someone in a yellow minivan that said “Taxi” on the side, police officials say.
Two males in the van reportedly stopped to let in Mario Beltran after he flagged it down in order to obtain transportation services. Once inside, the passenger was taken to Dunes Avenue and they took his money, police said.
The APD is currently on the lookout for the vehicle, and are urging citizens who come near it to proceed with caution.
Additional reports show that a theft by taking was reported at Three Squares Diner on East Oakridge Drive at 1:39 a.m. Sunday.
The victim in that case, who the officer determined was intoxicated, willingly got into a vehicle with the two suspects and they all went to the diner. Once inside, one suspect grabbed money from the victim’s hand. Afterwards, both suspects fled the scene in a Honda truck, police said.
One of the suspects was described as a black male about 30 years old, six feet tall, weighing 180 pounds and last seen wearing a white hat, white tank top, blue jeans and white shoes. The other was described as a black male about 25 years old, 5-feet-6-inches tall, weighing 130 pounds and last seen wearing a black hat, black long sleeve shirt, dark colored pants and dark shoes.
