CORDELE — Somewhere, the Georgia Christian girls basketball coach is wondering if he can file robbery charges against the Crisp Academy Lady Wildcats.

And how could he not? After all, Crisp stole the ball 21 times Tuesday night during a 61-25 rout of its region foe en route to the program’s 14th straight win.

To put in perspective the kind of roll the two-time defending GISA Class A state champion Lady Wildcats are on right now, it was in December the last time they lost a game.

Heck, make that the last time they were even tested.

“We’re just really playing good right now, everyone’s contributing and we’re hitting our shots every night,” Crisp head coach Gina Mitchell said Tuesday, before adding with a laugh. “Of course, it doesn’t hurt that no one seems to be able to stop Madi (Mitchell) inside or outside.”

Mitchell, the coach’s daughter and the first-ever Herald Super 6er from Crisp Academy in the history of the coveted preseason list, scored 19 points Tuesday in the win.

When asked to grade the improvement in her daughter’s game from her sophomore season to her junior year from purely a coach’s perspective, Gina Mitchell had her answer ready.

“She knows each game that she’s going to be double- and tripled-teamed, so she’s done a great job this year of finding the open teammate — and they’re hitting their shots,” the coach said of Madi, who is currently being recruited by Georgia Southern, North Florida and Mercer — among others. “She’s the center of it all, but everyone’s playing so well around her.”

Kendall Wilson added 18 points and was one of three players with seven steals Tuesday, including Kara White and Kayla Childers.

Crisp Academy, which improved to 22-2 overall and 6-0 in region play with Tuesday’s win, tries to make it 15 in a row Friday when they play on the road at Randolph Southern.
