Convenience store burglary foiled by police
ALBANY, Ga. — A man who was breaking into the Stop & Shop convenience store at 1117 Clark Ave. just before 3 a.m Tuesday ran at the sight of officers, but was caught and arrested, stated an Albany Police Department report.
According to the report, 26-year-old Damascus Greene was arrested, taken to the Dougherty County Jail and charged with criminal intent to commit burglary, possession of tools during the commission of a crime, loitering and prowling.
The report added that Greene tried to break into the store through the rear wall. He “failed to enter” and nothing was reported missing from the store, police said.
ALBANY POLICE: Albany police responded to at least 37 incidents Monday and into the early hours of Tuesday, according to available reports. Police responded to incidents including:
— Disorderly conduct on the 300 block of South Mock Road, the 800 block of Cotton Avenue and the 700 block of East Broad Avenue;
— Burglary on the 1000 block of West Lincoln Avenue, the 400 block of West Mercer Avenue and the 300 block of Carriage Lane;
— Injured person on the 600 block of 16th Avenue;
— Theft by taking on the 700 block of Partridge Drive, the 300 block of South Jackson Street, the 300 block of North Slappey Boulevard and the 800 block of North Ingleside Drive;
— Possession of less than an ounce marijuana on the 400 block of Clark Avenue;
— Disorderly conduct on the 700 block of East Broad Avenue and the 800 block of Cotton Avenue;
— Battery on the 700 block of East Broad Avenue;
— Deceased person on the 2800 block of Gillionville Road;
— Entering auto on the 1100 and the 1200 block of Netherland Lane;
— Attempted burglary on the 1100 block of Clark Avenue;
— Battery (domestic) on the 700 block of Dorsett Avenue;
— Assault (domestic) on the 400 block of West Oglethorpe;
— Domestic on the 300 block of Wells Avenue;
— Domestic (unfounded) on the 300 block of Carriage Lane, the 800 block of Mercedes Street, the 500 block of Holloway Avenue and the 400 block of South Van Buren Street.
DOUGHERTY POLICE: Dougherty County police responded to at least 11 calls according to police reports.
Police responded to incidents including:
— Traffic arrest and possession of marijuana on the 3200 block of Sylvester Road;
— Crime prevention response to an alarm on the 3200 block of Sylvester Road.
ALBANY FIRE DEPARTMENT: The Albany Fire Department responded to 18 incidents, including two electrical shorts, five false alarms, two grass fires, unauthorized burn, three activated alarms, trash fire, rescue cat from tree, two possible cardiac arrests and an EMS assist.
