Bomb threats have Worth schools on alert

SYLVESTER, Ga. — It was a trying day for school officials and parents in Worth County after three different threats were phoned in against schools in Worth County.

School officials say that the Worth County Board of Education received a threat Monday night against Worth County High School, prompting Principal Russ Chesser have the school searched by police and bomb-detecting dogs from Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany to canvas the school during the early morning hours Tuesday.

Chesser, in a letter to teachers, said that he had asked for an additional school resource officer to walk the halls during the day to beef up security at the school, which had been placed under what Worth County Schools Public Relations Director Heather Greene said was a "heightened alert" for the day.

Around midday Tuesday, another threat came in, prompting school officials to evacuate Worth County Elementary School.

Greene said that the students were evacuated to a nearby baseball field while police cleared the building. They students remained at the field until parents were could pick them up or they were bused out.

Finally, around 4:30 p.m., officials said that a third threat had been called in to Worth County Middle School.

The three threats up the number of threats received in the past two weeks to four.

On Jan. 23, the school was evacuated and other nearby schools placed on lockdown after school officials received a bomb threat. After the school was search by local authorities, including the bomb dogs from MCLB-Albany, classes resumed.

I just can not grasp why some idiot would do this! Hopefully they will catch this person soon. Put a ban on bombs that will curs the problem.

I pray that this idiot will be caught and put under the jail. I cannot understand as a parent, and grandparent how someone could do this. Students are trying to get an education. Teachers are trying to conduct their classes and other personnel have their duties to make the school day a good one for these students. Why can't these calls be traced? Go get the idiot.

I pray that those responsible for these terroristic threats and other acts of violence will be severely punished. The parents should also be reprimanded. Apparently the parents are not role models and do not have any discipline or values within the homes.
