ALBANY -- A thief broke out a window on a locked silver Chevrolet Tahoe and stole a laptop computer and an iPad about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday.
The crime is noteworthy because Albany Police Department officers have consistently said the large majority of entering-auto thefts involve unlocked cars.
Also, it was an Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit vehicle parked at Watson, Spenco & Howe, 320 W. Residence Ave.
According to reports, drug unit agents later found 59-year-old Jerome Keith with the computer and iPad on South Jackson Street. He was arrested and charged with possession of stolen goods.
In two other entering auto crimes, police reported cars parked in a lot at 1420 Dawson Road were hit by thieves. A thief broke the window out on a 2012 bronze Ford Escape and stole a purse.
The doors were left open on a 2010 silver Cadillac SUV, making it easy for a thief to steal a purse with credit cards and medications.
The number and audacity of entering auto crimes has prompted the police to issue another list of tips to help prevent the thieves from preying on residents.
