APD investigates armed robberies

ALBANY, Ga. -- The Albany Police Department responded to two armed robberies early Monday morning, reports show.

At 4:30 a.m., an armed robbery is reported to have taken place on the 2900 block of Sylvester Road. In that incident, two of four reporting victims — Ericka Lewis, 25, and Tony Lewis, 35 — were robbed at gunpoint by two masked men, according to a police spokesperson.

The masked men reportedly approached the victims in a tan Honda. All of the victims were walking on Sylvester Road when they were approached by the men in the vehicle.

Approximately 10 minutes later, officers made contact with Cornelius Crawford, 27, who was walking in the 300 block of South Mock Road. While talking with Crawford, the officers noticed that he had some of the stolen property from the armed robbery on him. Crawford was arrested and transported to the LEC. No one was injured during the incident.

Reports indicate that another armed robbery took place at around 1:30 a.m. at 700 W. Whitney Ave.

Police officials said officers responded to the location, and upon their arrival they made contact with the victim, who stated that two unknown males approached him and demanded money. One of the suspects reportedly pulled a small black handgun and pointed it at the victim while the other male punched the victim in the back of the head. The suspects took cash from the victim and then fled the scene prior to officers' arrival.

The victim was not seriously injured.
