JONESBORO, Ga. — A group of men trying to steal an iPhone 5 in Clayton County got more than they bargained for, WSB TV is reporting.
When a mom and her son tried to meet the prospective buyers of their Apple smart phone after making arrangements online, police say the prospective buyer turned out to be robbers, WSB reports.
One of the would-be bandits -- there were three men -- jumped into the victim's car with her gun, demanding the phone and the money of the mother who was waiting to meet the buyer.
Police said the woman's son and his girlfriend were inside the QuickTrip convenient store where the meet was taking place, and returned to his mother's car to see the robbery in place, WSB reports.
When one of the bandits brandished his gun as they returned to their own car to escape, police say the son pulled his own handgun and fired off roughly 15 shots.
"He began shooting at the perpetrators," Jonesboro Police Chief Franklin Allen told WSB TV. "The vehicle was struck (at least) two times, anda short distance from the QuickTrip ... the vehicle wrecked."
At least two of the men tried to flee on foot, but all three were caught by police,WSB reports.
No one was injured, and charges are pending.
