Two shot at East Albany business

ALBANY — Two men were shot Wednesday morning at Albany Area Laboratory 1711 E. Broad Ave.

According to Phyllis Banks, spokesperson for the Albany Police Department, Claude Scott Lucas, 63, was shot in the abdomen at the business Wednesday morning. Lucas, an employee of the business, was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital where he remains after undergoing surgery.

Officials have not released the identity of the owner of the semi-automatic weapon, who they say was injured in one hand, treated and released from Phoebe Putney hospital. Police say the gun owner has not been charged.

According to police, the owner of the weapon did not work directly for the laboratory but was a subcontractor who serviced equipment for them.

Police released few details about the incident and would not confirm if the shooting was accidental.
