ALBANY -- Mr. Robert E. (Bob) Baynard, 83 of Pineknoll Ln. In Albany died July 11, 2013 at Willson Hospice House.

Funeral services will be Tuesday 11 AM at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor, Rev. William Collins and Rev. Wayne Racz officiating. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

He was born June 11, 1930 in Atlanta, GA to the late Jennings Ernest and Ida Reid Baynard.

Bob graduated from Lanier High School, Macon, GA in1948, received his BA degree from Mercer University in 1952 and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Emory University in 1972. Before attending Emory University in May of 1952 he served as a college trainee at Southern Bell Telephone Co. In September of 1952 he served in the United States Army during the Korean War and in 1959 he received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorable discharged as Captain from the United States Army Reserves. He then finished his career with Southern Bell Telephone with 20 years of service as a Management employee with the last 13 years at district manager level. From 1973 to 1999 Bob Practiced Law in Albany serving his last 10 years as Assistant District Attorney, serving under District Attorney's Britt Priddy and Ken Hodges, representing Dougherty Child Support Enforcement agency of the State of Georgia.

He was a longtime member of Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church, and the last 39 as a teacher of the Alpha Sunday School class.

Bob was very active in civic, professional, charitable and religious activities. Over the years he was past president of the Dougherty Circuit Bar Association where he received the "Distinguished Service Award", he was Past President of the Dougherty County Kiwanis Club where he served as board member and chaired various committees and was president of the Dougherty units of the American Cancer Society and the American Red Cross. He was co-organizer and General Chairman of the National Pecan Festival, co-organizer and Vice president of the Albany Area Arts Council and past president of the Albany Community Council

Survivors include his wife, Mary Booth Baynard of Albany, sons, Reid Baynard and his wife Kathy of Woodstock, GA and Matthew Baynard and his wife Jackie of Pensacola, FL, daughter, Julie Evans and her husband Robert of Bulverde, TX, step-son, Clay Council and his wife Joy of Conyers, step-daughter, Lisa Phillips and her husband William of Albany, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
