Worth County man, 78, dies in tractor accident

SYLVESTER — A Worth County man was killed Thursday when he fell off his tractor.

Worth County Coroner John Johnson said Larry Bailey Sr., 78, of Sylvester, fell from his tractor while mowing Thursday afternoon and was caught between the tractor and the attached rotary mower.

According to Johnson, Bailey was dragged for “some distance” by the tractor before managing to untangle himself.

“He wasn’t cut by the mower at all,” Johnson said, “just all beat up and banged around.”

Johnson said that when Bailey escaped the tractor-mower combination he was able to walk and use his cell phone to call for help.

Bailey was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, where he died from blunt force trauma around 11 p.m. Thursday, Johnson said.
