FORT VALLEY -- Mrs. Berta Yates passed away peacefully in the presence of her daughters, on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Wynfield Park Nursing Home in Albany. She was born in Pulaski County on June 1, 1913, and lived past her 100th birthday. Mrs. Yates was retired from Robins Air Force Base.
Survivors include her daughters, Jerre (James) Rigdon, June Collins Cross, and Cindy (Bob) Paxton; step-son, J. E. Skeeter (Betty) Collins; grandchildren, Jimmy (Nancy) Rigdon, Jill (Paul) Gilbert, Susan Rogers, Ronny (Barbara) Rogers, Steven (Christy) Collins, and Anna (Bill) Kerley; great grandchildren, Kyle Bartow, Charles Persall, and Chandler Gilbert; brothers, Sam (Doris) Lee, and Robert (Alleene) Lee; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Yates, grandson, Eric M. Brown; parents, William and Martha Lee; two brothers and six sisters.
Family will greet friends at Rooks Funeral Home, 213 West Church Street in Fort Valley, from 9:30AM to 10:30AM, on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. Graveside services will follow at 11:00AM in Oaklawn Cemetery, 720 S. Camellia Blvd. in Fort Valley with Rev. Rick Hamilton officiating.
