LEESBURG, Ga. -- A crash that took place just inside the Lee County line resulted in one fatality Sunday evening, officials with the Georgia State Patrol post in Albany say.
Senior Trooper William Cope of Post 40 said Monday that the crash involved a 2006 GMC Yukon being driven by Eddie Phillips of Coolidge and a 2005 Dodge Magnum driven by Bonnie Harrill of Adel, and took place near the intersection of U.S. Highway 82 and North Doublegate Drive just after 6 p.m.
Harrill was reportedly traveling north on Highway 82 attempting to take a left onto North Doublegate while Phillips was traveling south on 82. The initial investigation into the incident showed that Harrill did not have a green arrow, indicating that she failed to yield, and collided with the Yukon Phillips was driving, Cope said.
Eddie Phillips' mother, Lanell Edwards, 74, was killed in the crash. Harrill reportedly refused medical attention, while Eddie Phillips and his wife, Benita Phillips, were in good condition Monday, Cope said.
Cope said no charges had been filed as of Monday afternoon, but that Harrill could potentially face charges of vehicular homicide and failure to yield. Drug and alcohol tests are pending, he said.
The crash remains under investigation.
