OAKFIELD, Ga. -- When Albert Gill's tractor was struck from behind by another vehicle recently, his injuries sent him to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment and a lengthy recovery.
Community support for Gill and his family as been abundant since the accident. Efforts were made in the community to encourage area residents to make purchases from Gill's farm produce business.
Because of the support, the family issued the following statement:
"The family of A.W. and Carole Gill of Oakfield, Ga., on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Gill, would like to thank the South Georgia communities for their overwhelming support in the wake of Mr. Gill's crash on Highway 300 on Thursday, July 18th. Mr. Gill continues to recover from his injuries at Phoebe Putney hospital in Albany, Ga. We would like to thank the friends, family, and the surrounding communities for helping support Gill's Farm Produce by stopping by or calling and continuing to buy produce.
"We have been inundated with orders for peas, beans, okra, and other produce. We apologize if we were not able to fill every customer's request. The family and friends of Mr. Gill will try to continue to work his crops and get the produce to his customers. Thank you for your patience."
For anyone wishing to donate to help cover Gill's expenses, an account at Colony Bank has been set up. Checks need to be made payable to Carole Gill and can be deposited at any Colony Bank branch.
