Wrestling legend Roddy Piper dies July 31, 2015

MOULTRIE -- DOERUN- Raymond Douglas Brown, 71, of Doerun, died Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Willson Hospice House in Albany.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Harris Whitman and Pastor Bobby Wiard officiating. Interment will follow in Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens.

Casketbearers will be David Pafford, Joe Smith, Bobby Sumner, Gary Willis, Edward Kennel and Albert Hawkins.

Born April 9, 1942 in Columbus, Georgia, he was the son of the late Raymond Ferdinand Brown and Evelyn Bowles Brown Faircloth. He retired as a dispatcher with Miller-Coors Brewery and was of the Baptist faith. He was former president of Dixie League Baseball in Lee County, was the former District Director of Dixie Youth Baseball and was a volunteer at Reed Bingham State Park.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandchild, Kyndall Durden.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Jarrell Brown of Doerun; one daughter, Kimmi Durden and husband Lee of Columbus; three sons, Steven Brown and wife Karen of Tucson, Az., Heath Brown of Albany and Tyler Brown and wife Mindi of Leesburg; one sister, Linda Brown-Edenfield and husband Walter of Columbus; a step-daughter, Diane Herndon and husband Lewis of Moultrie; a step-son, Jerry Smith, Jr. and friend Michelle Cook of Doerun; a very special friend, his poodle, Charlie Ray Brown; eight grandchildren, Eric Switzer, Kyle Switzer, Jason Brown, Laine Brown, Wiley Brown, Mallory Herndon, Devin Smith and John Melvin Herndon; his brother-in-law, Buddy Jarrell of Moultrie; and a special friend, David Pafford of Doerun.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
