TIFTON -- Earnie Joe Courson, 62, of Tifton, died Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 1 at Our Divine Saviour Catholic Church with Father Justin Ferguson officiating. A private committal service will be held later in the day at McMillan Cemetery in Alapaha. A Rosary will be held at 6:30 Wednesday evening with a visitation to follow from 7-9 at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.
The Tifton Rotary Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Courson was born September 6, 1950 in Miami, FL, to Mary Nell Rowell Courson and the late E.L. Courson. He received a degree in Journalism from the University of Georgia and a Masters Degree from Northwestern University. Mr. Courson retired in 2002 from the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service. He was WALB T.V.'s 10 country reporter for many years, as well as a columnist for the Tifton Gazette. Mr. Courson was an active member of Our Divine Saviour Catholic Church and the Tifton Rotary Club. He was a licensed pilot. Mr. Courson was an active member of the community and enjoyed local politics.
Mr. Courson is survived by his wife, Jean Nolan Courson of Tifton; mother, Mary Nell Rowell Courson of Blackshear; daughter and son-in-law, Dessa and Michael Morris of Monroe; grandchildren, William Morris and Patrick Morris and brother, Bob Courson of Blackshear.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Our Divine Saviour Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 212, Tifton, GA 31793 or to Rotary International Foundation, One Rotary Center, 1560 Sherman Ave., Evanston, IL 60201.
