Logo sought for Zombie Run

Runners take off at 1 p.m. Saturday on the first Zombie River Run on a three-mile Riverwalk Trail course. Runners had to avoid zombies who leaped out and grabbed at the "life flags" the runners wore. The race was a fund raiser for the Flint RiverQuarium. (Oct. 27, 2012)

ALBANY, Ga. — Picture what it's like to run with a zombie. Incorporate the Flint RiverQuarium into the image and it could be worth $200.

RiverQuarium officials are looking for a unique logo for the second River Zombies 5K, which is set for the Oct. 26 downtown at the former First Tee park south of the Albany Civic Center.

"The first one was great," said Wendy Bellacomo, marketing manager for the RiverQuarium. "We had a really good turnout. There was a lot of enthusiasm. They all wanted it to come back."

The public is being invited to submit ideas for an original logo for the run. The winning logo will incorporate the RiverQuarium logo and the name "River Zombies 5K," and should look good in both full color and in black and white representations.

"The deadline for the logo contest is Aug. 18," Bellacomo said.

The River Zombies 5K is a triple threat of sorts — a race, an obstacle course and, of course, zombies. Participants try to finish the course while zombies try to foil them by stealing their "life flags."

Last year, RiverQuarium officials said, the event attracted 350 participants and an equal number of spectators.

Currently, a committee is working on ideas for an improved obstacle course that will be constructed by Makerspace, a company that specializes in this type of construction. The First Tee location will allow for more difficult obstacles, Bellacomo said, adding the entire day will be a festival with music and vendors.

And a few more "stars" of the show.

"We'll have more zombies this year," Bellacomo said.
