LAKE SEMINOLE – Bass fishing is reported as fair. Good numbers of fish may be found on structure near the banks. Target woody structure and shade. Texas-rig worms are producing most of the strikes. Also fish frog-type baits over the grassy points. Up the rivers, spinnerbaits are said to be paying dividends. When fishing soft-baits, fish slowly. Crappies are in the deeper, cooler water now and not biting aggressively. Best bet is moving water with good clarity. Catfish are active in the warmer water. Seek out current, where higher oxygen levels have concentrated the baitfish. Bream action is spotty and hybrids are not very active at present.
LAKE WALTER F. GEORGE – Bass are fair and moving into a summer pattern. Fish may be found in lily pad patches. The best pad areas are those that cover a large surface area. Early in the day, buzzbaits and poppers are working fairly well. Mid morning, switch to jerkbaits and crankbaits and flip jigs in woody structure in shady locations. As a general rule, fish slowly and make presentations deliberately. Crappies are fair in brush on flats off the river channel. Use jigging spoons and fish any time of day. Bream fishing is fair, though the fish are small at present. Crickets are the best bait. Hybrids may appear from time to time late in the afternoon and catfish are good on shallow flats early and late.
FLINT RIVER – The shoal bass have begun to turn on with the consistent warm-up. Down-sized Texas-rigs, spinnerbaits, and shallow crankbaits can pay off really well. Largemouths are slow on the river proper, but are biting fairly well on Lake Chehaw. The river and tributaries are described as slightly stained, but not muddy, which is a boon to fishing right now. There is limited pressure on crappies, but some are being caught from river ledge structure. This can be a good bite during hot weather periods. Bream are good at present and flathead catfish have moved back into their “holes” after spawning.
LAKE BLACKSHEAR – The lake is producing fairly good post-spawn largemouth action. Target the cypress trees as well as grass points and grass patches. Dock fishing is also on the upswing. Many of the bass being taken are quality individuals. Crappies are reported as good, especially around dock structure during the evening hours. Night fishing around docks is also producing some striper action. Bream fishing is fair to good, with bream even being caught at night by some dock fishermen. The flathead catfish bite on the lake is active right now, with good catches reported.
