Husband charged in wife's death

OMEGA, Ga. -- A Colquitt County man has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of his wife early Sunday, law enforcement officials confirm.

Steve Turner, special agent in charge for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation office in Thomasville, said that Fousto Gonzales, 36, and Virginia Gonzales, 35, were involved in an altercation at their home at 1498 C.S. Powell Road in Omega.

At some point, the two went outside -- which is when it is believed that Fousto Gonzales shot his wife multiple times, killing her, Turner said.

The shooting is reported to have taken place just after midnight on Sunday. Virginia Gonzales' body has been sent to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy, which is set to take place sometime this week, Turner said.

The husband has been charged with murder, with no other expected charges pending. There were no other individuals involved, and it is not believed at this point that the incident was anything other than a domestic altercation, Turner said on Monday.

The incident remains under investigation.
