ALBANY, Ga. -- For those age 21 and oolder, the Albany Police Department is offering a basic course in firearms covering safety, legal issues and handling skills.
According to Phyllis Banks, APD spokeswoman and coordinator of the class, the course will be held 8 a.m.-4 p.m. June 22. Banks said the early part of the course will be held at the Law Enforcement Center, 201 W. Oglethorpe Blvd., and later move to hands-on instruction at the Law Enforcement firing range on Turner Field Road.
The course is free to the public, Banks said, but class size is limited. Applicants must sign a release authorizing the APD to conduct a criminal background check, provide their own firearms, ear and eye protection and a standard ball cap for the course. Eye and ear protection can be obtained where firearms are sold, Banks said. For application information contact Phyllis Banks at (229) 483-6298.
