Gunman sought in shooting

MOULTRIE — Police are investigating a disagreement that turned sour Wednesday night, with at least one man shot and another unaccounted for.

Investigators of the Moultrie Police Department on Thursday were still uncertain what happened just before 8 p.m. at the Shy apartment complex on Northside Drive. They say that one man was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound, but another man is still out there somewhere — and he may be wounded, too.

According to officials, Richard Williams and Darnell Slaughter were in an argument over a woman when one or both of them raised the stakes.

“Mr. Williams has told us the incident was over a female he and Slaughter were both involved with,” said Freddie Williams with the Moultrie Police Department.

According to police, Richard Williams may have been shot by a 9 mm pistol, although no weapon was found, as two spent casings of that caliber were discovered on the premises. Richard Williams’ injuries were relatively minor and he was treated and released from the hospital, officials say.

Slaughter is believed also to have received a gunshot wound, and is urged to turn himself in to authorities.

According to Freddie Williams, neither of the men have yet been charged, although they could face charges of aggravated assault, depending on results of the investigation.
