ALBANY — Area shooters will have an opportunity to take aim at helping out a family whose son was critically injured in an automobile accident by competing in a benefit shoot June 22.

The Flint Skeet and Trap Club and friends of the Glenn and Ramona Smith family are hosting the benefit shoot to help raise funds for Tyler Smith, who remians in a Macon trauma center after being severely injured in an auto accident May 7.

“Tyler’s vehicle was T-boned by a semi loaded with fertilizer,” family friend Ron Howard said. “The real miracle of all this is that the vehicle that was behind the semi was an ambulance, and the EMTs quickly stabilized Tyler and transported him to a hospital.

“Tyler hasn’t regained consciousness yet, and his family is just holding on right now. They haven’t been home (from Macon) since this happened.”

The shoot at the Lily Pond Road skeet and trap club will feature Lewis Class scoring with prizes awarded in HOA A-B-C Class. Targets include 25 ATA 16-yard line trap, 25 five-stand and 25 wobble 16-yard line trap. All ties will be broken with skeet doubles, stations 3/4/5, miss and out.

“There will be some pretty significant prizes,” Howard said. “We’re still getting contributions in, but I know one nice prize is a hog hunt at Tarver Plantation.”

The entry fee is $50 and includes lunch provided by Meatslangers BBQ. Lunch for non-shooters will be available for $10. A silent auction is also planned. Registration for the shoot will be held from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the 1315 Lily Pond Road venue.

“The Flint Skeet and Trap Club has done a few benefit shoots during the time I’ve been president of the club,” Ed Stamper said. “(Tyler) shoots on the Lee County 4-H team, and when some of his family friends came to us and asked if we would host a benefit, we said by all means.”

Persons who cannot attend the shoot but want to help the Smith family may make donation checks payable to Tyler Smith Benefit Fund at the Bank of Lee County, located at 3000 North Slappey Blvd.
