APD responds to assault, hijacking

ALBANY, Ga. — Among the incidents that kept the Albany Police Department busy on Saturday were an aggravated assault and an armed car hijacking, reports show.

The hijacking reportedly took place at around 3 a.m. on Saturday. Police responded to 1303 E. Broad Ave., the site of Applejax Sports Bar and Lounge, in reference to the incident, which reports indicate took place on the 1300 block of East Roosevelt Avenue.

An APD spokeswoman said that Kenneth Adkins, 44, stated that he had been approached by three males carrying handguns who demanded that he get out of his 2005 Cadillac Seville.

Adkins complied, and the suspects fled the scene in the vehicle — leaving the victim uninjured. There was no additional suspect information available Monday afternoon, and the case remains active.

The aggravated assault was reported at around 11 p.m. on Saturday from 612 Springfield Drive. Available reports show that the incident involved a knife and took place at Pine Bluff Estates.

Due to the victim’s refusal to cooperate, detectives said they were unsure as of Monday afternoon what direction the aggravated assault case would take.
