Auditions set for ‘Steel Magnolias’

ALBANY, Ga. — Theatre Albany Artistic Director Mark Costello said the theater will conduct auditions for the play “Steel Magnolias,” by Robert Harling, at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Auditions will be conducted at the theater at 514 Pine Ave.

“Steel Magnolias” is based on a true incident of author Harling’s mother and sister. The story is set in a small-town beauty shop near New Orleans and spans several years in the lives of the shop’s owner and her customers.

Costello is looking to cast six adult women who will portray Truvy (40ish); Annelle (19); Clairee (66ish); Shelby (25); M’Lynn (50ish), and Ouiser (66ish).

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script, Costello said. Rehearsals are set to begin in July with performances scheduled for Aug. 16-25. Contact the theater at (229) 439-7193.
