ALBANY, Ga. — Demeatria Porter, charged Tuesday with felony murder and cruelty to a child, got her first appearance Wednesday before a Dougherty County Magistrate Court judge, jail officials say.

According to police reports, Porter had been babysitting 6-month-old Ja’kobian Davis at a Marie Road residence at the time of his death Sunday morning. An autopsy by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation determined the cause of death to be blunt trauma to the child’s head.

After her appearance before Magistrate Court Judge Robert Revell, who made a formal statement of charges against her and informed her of her rights, Porter was returned to her cell at the Dougherty County Jail, officials said.
