ALBANY, Ga. — Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital has scheduled a blood drive for 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday.
The event will take place in the solarium of Phoebe’s main campus cafeteria. It is open to the public and hospital employees, and all who donate will be registered to win two tickets to Wild Adventures.
The drive comes at a time of the year when, officials say, blood donations tend to be down due to summer activities.
Most healthy individuals who are at least 17-years-old and weigh 110 pounds are eligible to donate. Whole blood can be donated every 56 days.
Information available from the American Red Cross shows that there is someone in the United States who needs blood every two seconds. The average red blood cell transfusion is approximately three pints, with a single car accident victim requiring as many as 100 pints.
