ALBANY -- Mr. Gary Barton died Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at his residence.
His memorial services will be held June 28, 2013 at 3:00PM at Kimbrell-Stern with visitation to be held following the service. Mr. Bob McKinney will officiate.
Mr. Barton graduated from Emory University and the University of Alabama, and was a retired librarian with the Dougherty County Public Library. He attended Westwood Church and was an example to those who knew him. A beloved husband and father, Gary will always be remembered by his loved ones for his kindness, wit, and quiet courageousness. A true gentleman and gentle man, he strived to make every day special for those around him. He always took the time to write detailed letters in his impeccable penmanship; everyone knew his letters before opening them by his carefully crafted envelopes. He loved Christmas, every type of food, playing the piano, and sweet tea. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria of Albany, two daughters, Mary Barton Prickett (Jarrod) of Athens, GA and Caroline Barton Schmidt (Nick) of Brookline, MA, his mother, Floetta B. Barton, a sister, Kathy Barton Long, both of Ooltewah, TN, a niece, Kelli Marie Long of Knoxville, TN and his dogs Buddy and Willie.
Memorials may be made to the State Botanical Gardens of Georgia, 2450 South Milledge Ave., Athens, GA 30605.
